Still a great breakfast place.
I've come here many times over the years.

I was saddened to read a couple of reviews on Citysearch and learn quality had declined since the change in ownership.

Not so, If anything the omelet was better than that served before. As mentioned in a previous review, there is no longer a second big plate dedicated to hash brown potatos..but I never felt the need for several pounds of potatos to accompany a seven egg omelet.

I am a very large and extremely gluttonous individual... nevertheless, I boxed up about half of my breakfast.

I am delighted that I still have a favorite breakfast place in Se Portland

Best Breakfast -Lunch Thank You Andy Carson from KPTV
New name KETTLE INN CAFE-Our Local Andy Carson from KPTV did his Weather segments from this Fabulous Restaurant, I've never been there and soon as Husband saw portions of Food and heard it was homemade food, We had to visit. We LOVED it. The Food was outstanding and the Best hashbrowns I've ever had. My husband had a Huge Hamburger loaded with the works and Clam Chowder I had Chicken fried steak & eggs and Hashbrowns with scones. Awesome friendly service, Small inside-Limited seating and they Only do Breakfast & Lunch so they close around 3pm-Priced for any budget.
Hamburger was Real Hamburger and huge and came with crinkle fries (YUM) , Also the Clam Chowder was thick and very yummy.
Chicken Fried Steak was Also enough to share, it was Giant too and had an addictive flavor. Excellent Gravy. The Hashbrowns were so so good and the eggs were too, You could tell they were cooked from a very well seasoned grill and that makes a difference. If You haven't been there, You must GO GO GO.
I think Me & My Husband just found Our Secret Place to eat-hahaha

Where has the Original Pa's Kettle gone!!?
My girlfriend and I made it a goal to dine at Pa's Kettle once a week for breakfast. We've never had their lunch or dinner, but thoroughly enjoy their breakfast. We always ordered the sausage an cheese omelette, served with a full plate of hash browns, and a side of scones. The scones were huge fluffy, soft baked doe just like an elephant ear without the cinnamon served with strawberry jam. Everything was perfect. The omelette always cheesy and loaded with sausage. It was simply the best breakfast joint in town! However Pa's Kettle was sold. My girlfriend and I were off to get breakfast at the newly painted "Pa's Place." Not only had the the place been painted, the menu had changed as well as the food. The omelette and was small, the sausage was gross and much smaller. The scones were not at all the same. It was a big bummer. :( bring back the good ol Pa's Kettle!! Please Ma, we miss the good cooking.

Why change the best?
Ma sold the place. Very sad. The new "Kettle Inn" took me by surprise. The new owners have painted inside and out. Nice change and should have stopped there. The menu has changed and so has the quality of food.

It is very sad to see them change the food. A staple for years for old and young now is gone. The chicken fried steak is no longer. It is now 2 deep fried patties of Denny's quality CFK. I was actually told by a employee they changed the CFK because there was not enough room on the grill!!! Nice excuse. My friend and I looked at each other and almost bursted out in laughter when we heard that! Ma did for years even with a packed house. No room on the grill? Change that to a bigger one, its the food that counts. They changed everything else. More sad changes are the famous scones. The scones aren't even close to the original. I was told they were given the original recipe but the kitchen could not duplicate it right. Portions have shrunk. No more second plate just for hash browns. Even if it was to much food it was bragging rights for Pa's and customers. There is no more choice for french toast either.

The employees are very nice and accomodating to all the new questions but the new owners could have saved them the hassle by sticking to the bones that made the place so unique and good. I totally think there will be a change over in customers. I think all the original customers including myself will not be visiting the "kettle" ever again until it's back to the good ol' way. Thumbs down, No rose, 1 Star, and a shedding of tears from my left eye.
