Cash paying customers BEWARE
Did not want to file an insurance claim in order to keep my
18 year old drivers record clean. Car she hit was taken to J&M, shop told me they only use OEM parts, but the car is a 16 year old car. My insurance agent told me the industry standard is to use after market on cars older than 3 years. When my 18 year old and I arrive at J&M luckily Jim is not there. Upon inspection I find that they are charging for support bar that is not damaged. When Jim arrives I try to discuss OEM versus aftermarket on such an old car, barely get out 3 words and Jim literally YELLS at me and tells me he does not even have to talk to me or show me anything, yet I am the one paying him $1900.00. Jim also wants me to pay him BEFORE any work is even started. Jim tells me they get their parts (OEM) from the dealership down the road and the bumper will be in the next day, (like Toyota has an OEM bumper for a 16 year old car laying around). I want to come in the next day to see the invoice and look at the bumper, and am told by front desk that I "can get the invoice from the cars owner". Now highly suspicious that they are not even using an OEM I decide to use my insurance and I submit a claim. Now Jim wil not credit me back my $1900.00 Jim is a very rude man, I did nothing to cause him to come unglued and yell at me in front of my 18 year old the way he did. Hey I was paying him $1900, which gives me the right to question what I am paying for. My gut tells me I was being scammed, and turning it over to my insurance agent was the best thing I ever did. By the way my agent says they will NOT pay for OEM parts for a 16 year old car. If this was the last shop in the city I would NOT go there.
