From the Community Relations Director‎
The negative review listed below, dated January 14, 2009 has recently come to our attention. It is obvious that the review was written by a disgruntled employee. Unfortunately, bad press has a way of getting around. Therefore I have requested family members, staff members, entertainers, outside health providers, and friends of Emerson House to write their own honest reviews of their opinions. My name is Alex Luse and I have been employed by Emerson House for 4 years. I began my career with the company as the Office Manager and was promoted to the position of Community Relations Director after 2 years. I would not represent WITH MY NAME a community that I did not wholeheartedly believe in. We do not and have not had problems with staffing. In fact, we are fortunate enough to have many long term staff in our community including med aides who have been employed with us for over 10 years. Incentive pay and raises are available to employees who show a commitment and work ethic deserving of ...

From the Residence Director of Emerson House‎
In response to the ridiculous review dated Jan. 14, 2009: Emerson House is an Alzheimer's Community which prides itself on long term staff from the Residence Director, Kitchen, Housekeeping, and Direct Care Staff. Our families tell us that one thing that factored in with their decision to place their loved one with us was our low staff turn over. Emerson House has great staff and KEEPS great staff, because we care for our staff. They stay with us out of loyalty, commitment, and dedication. As a small community, Emerson House is very much family oriented which is evidenced by the continued relationships with families long after their loved ones have passed on. Often past family members visit just to say hello and see our staff. Emerson House maintains staffing based upon resident acuity and service needs. When hiring, Emerson House abides by all the laws and guidelines of the State of Oregon, including background checks which are submitted through the state to determine fitness of a ...

From the Maintenance Director‎
I've been employed at Emerson House for a couple years now, and I have found it to be one of the best jobs I've ever had. The vibe that is generated by the staff and residents makes going into work an overwhelmingly positive experience. From the management to the care staff, residents to day-care participants, you can really feel the positive energy of people caring for one another. The environment is friendly, and it is great to see happiness emanating from people in difficult stages of their life. Having worked in other care communities, I can say first-hand that the staff of Emerson House is tops. The residents, and the overall needs of the community are always put first. The concerns of family members are promptly addressed and given the utmost consideration. Everyone on staff tries their best to comfort and care for the residents... and it's not as if they are getting paid a fortune to do it. They just care. The building is filled with people who care. This has not ...

Unsatisfactory‎
Staff is not paid enough to care about residents properly. Understaffing due to high turnover and a desire to save funds for upper management and facility upkeep leads to not enough attention or slower, cautious care and sensitivity to residents. Incentive pay and raises do not occur from 6 months until a year after employment. Starting pay is only 9/hr for strenuous physical labor. Management cuts pay underhandedly on checks of those who are terminated. Longterm staff treat residents in a harsh, rushing manner and chase off any newcoming members of staff with terminal gossip, a demeaning attitude, and unconstructive criticisms. Emerson house will hire caregivers with no prior experience and do not check backgrounds or employment history thoroughly. Hiring manager Katherine is poor at management and handling of employees, insincere towards residents, and negligent at completing training procedures in full. I was very disappointed to be employed by Emerson House and feel terribly for ...
