Horrible!
OMG this place is HORRIBLE! My husband and I wanted an economical, short vacation in Portland. I decided on this "hotel" due to the downtown location, and the price ($90/night). We pulled up and my hubby immediately noticed the building looked like it hadn't been touched in 20 years. The desk attendant seemed surprised that we were there, even though I had called ahead for a reservation. After paying for the room, he insisted that we check it out first to make sure we liked it. "Our rooms are very nice, very clean". Really? It looked and smelled as if the room hadn't been cleaned since the last guests cooked meth in it. Stains of questionable origin on the walls, food splatters in the microwave, cigarette burns on every surface, and human hairs on the obviously unwashed linen. We looked at two rooms, both of which were absolutely horrendous, and one room even still had a previous guest's toothbrush in it. The hallways have age stained carpets, dirty walls, and smell of must and mildew with just a hint of the scent of Lysol to top everything off. The attendant and manager refunded our money nicely, but blamed the state of the rooms on the "maids". The manager stated he would go inspect the rooms and fix the problem. I don't think they even employ a maid. If I could give the Downtown Value Inn no stars, I would. Frankly, we both would rather stay under a bridge than spend one night in that place. On a good note, we found a room at the Comfort Inn, 1/2 a block away from the MAX, for $50 more a night. It was clean, had a jacuzzi, and included breakfast. Well worth the money!
