The GYM is fine EXCEPT when you want...‎
My wife and I joined up last year around April. About a month later our GYM closed. We tried out another location but IT was more out of the way so we didn't go as often. Long story short we decided to cancel our account. Well the only way to do that is through a nightmarishly long phone call to the Corporate office. Bally's phone customer services is the worst I've ever experienced. And that includes calling the DMV.‎

Should have joined 24 hour‎
When I signed up I was under the impression that I could cancel at any time for $50 from management. I later discovered that I could only do that if I moved to a location where there was no Ballys within 50 miles of my home residency. Otherwise, you have to physically hurt yourself to the point of not being able to use the gym, have a doctors note and pay $50, which is absolutely absurd. Every time I go to work out, the front desk members are too busy talking on the phone to welcome me. Awful customer service skills. And they are constantly trying to get you to sign up for personal training sessions.. which run about $900 for maybe 8 one hour sessions. I tried 24 Hour Fitness last week, in comparison, Bally's machines are outdated and theres no bball court or swimming pool. I think it's an bland gym with young disinterested workers. Don't get stuck into Bally's contract like I did.‎

Blatent Scam
Never signed up with them (thank god), but I've heard of people who did. I can't believe this business hasn't been shut down for fraudulent business practices. Sure they offer a decent gym, but that's not the point. It's the contract and their monthly billing. Just search Google for 'Bally Scam' or 'Bally Cancel membership'‎

scam artists!!
Don't sign the contract! Bally will scam you out of money! My club closed, so naturally I had them cancel my family-plan membership. However, they continued to charge my account for one member even though I had NO CLUB to go to! Plus, they sent me threatening junk mail saying I was late on my payments which they informed me is just what they do when someone cancels.... sickening.‎

Best Gym in Downtown Portland!
The downtown Bally's in Portland is a great buy for anyone looking for a gym to join in the area. They offer a ton of group exercise classes during the lunch hour (spin, step, yoga, etc) for those who like to fit in workouts during their work day. Friendly, comfortable atmosphere-- knowledgeable and approachable staff.
