SI made my day
I love my BMW! Where do I start?
I have been all over trying to get the wobble out of my steering wheel. I went to several repair shops while living in Seattle but no one was able to completely fix the problem. I went to a BMW repair shop and a tire store here in Portland to try to find the problem with the wobble.
While everyone could feel it especially with a slight turn no one was able to really fix it. I even purchased new tires but it still was there. I had pretty much given up on the idea of eliminating the steering wobble, but I couldn’t. When my “check engine light “came on I decided to really get serious about the service on my car. Someone at work told me to call Steve’s Imports; she told me she has had several good experiences with Steve’s. I talked to someone else randomly who recommended Steves Imports and that his whole family used Steves Imports to service their Imports.
Anyway I made the appointment for the check engine light and mentioned the wobble. I was impressed with how they listened to me and asked several questions about the wobble.
They called me back the same day telling me I had a code for my catalytic converter which they said should be warranted by the dealer because my car had less than 80,000 miles on it.
Anyway they found the cause of the wobble – I feel so dumb. It turns out the car had after market wheels which they say the lug bolt holes were not machined properly – not completely centered. They said they had seen this before and is sometimes hard to find because when you balance the tires and wheels it doesn’t show up. It was weird to because when I would have the tires rotated the problem would not go away, it wasn’t just one wheel. Fortunately they had another similar car there with stock wheels, bolted them up and smooth, smooth. I ordered used wheels with new tires which they do and the problem was fixed.
Oh yeah, they were right on the catalytic converter.
Steves Imports did recommend other services which I am doing.
Thanks SI for lowering my stress level and making something that seemed so difficult end up so simple.
